Law & Order: Criminal Intent: Year Nine

Why so expensive for so few episodes?
I do love this show but have a complaint about the fact that we are being charged as much for later seasons (7, 8 9)as we were for earlier sets. Earlier seasons were 22 episodes long and ran in the range of 960 minutes. These later seasons are about 690 minutes and fewer episodes. if the seasons are so much shorter the cost should be lower.

The Ninth Season of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" opens with a catastrophic two-part story which results in the departure of detectives Goren and Eames, and their boss, from the major case squad. Their replacements are Detectives Nichols (Jeff Goldblum) and Stevens (Saffron Burrows) and a new boss (played by Mary Elizabeth Mastrontonio). The tried and true format of the series remains the same, as the detectives investigate unusual murders, smoke out the intent of the suspects, and try to wring a confession out of them.

Season Nine offers sixteen new episodes and a procession of interesting guest stars. The cases range from mob bosses to serial killers to revenge for old murders, and more. Perhaps most interesting, at least for some viewers, will be the evolving dynamics between the two new detectives. Now I recall why I stopped watching...
I'm a huge fan of the original Law and Order-but grew to love Criminal Intent- most especially watching D'Onofrio and Erbe's characters develop. But this season is terrible. Tragic of course in realizing that Goren and Eames were leaving- and then the writing went to hell! Most of these episodes make no sense. "Palimpsest" is possibly the worst-Goldblum overacts the hell out of it (which is nothing new) but there's no clear plot. Other episodes have the detectives telling a women's spouse that she's been cheating on him- the wife's lover is dead-they think her husband did it-so they confront him and leave?? Cue next scene and here's the police, remarkably arriving on time as said husband is beating his wife. L and O may not always have been sticklers for following procedure but this? All I could think if Goren and Eames had this case, they would've bent the rules if they had to, to protect the wive and find the killer. Quincy, M.E.: Season Four

SUBTITLES OR CAPTIONS
I love QUINCY, but unfortunatly my husband doesn't hear well, so he needs captions or subtitles. Please include them, otherwise we are not able to watch it.

Forensics
Loved Quincy when it originally aired. I found forensics & pathology fascinating too. This was the first of the genre and set the standard for the great forensic shows on today.

Thank You Shout! Factory
I'm glad Shout! Factory is picking up where Universal abandoned us at the end of Season 3 years ago. I ordered Seasons 4 and 5 through Best Buy and had no problems with the discs. I'm glad they're single sided unlike Universal DVD's. I'm planning to get Season 6 soon and hope Shout releases them in the frequent fashion they have been doing. I've been waiting to get this entire series for many years.

The color and picture quality is much better than what I remembered on TV both during it's original run and repeats. They also appear to be uncut. I can compare them to off-air copies I have and see what was cut out in syndication.

Ultra Seven: The Complete Series

Unique Series in the Ultraman Franchise
I was amazed to get Amazon's notification of the Ultraseven series coming to DVD. From my youth, I knew of Ultraman and only Ultraman. It would be years into adulthood before I knew there were any other series like this, much less finding out Ultraman was ALSO a sequel of its own from "Ultra Q" (aside from Johnny Sokko and the various Godzilla adventures that were shown endlessly in US syndication). It was my understanding that the original Ultraman series became too expensive to produce, thus it was only in production for one year. Evidently, with series still in production as of the date of this review, that may not have been the case.

I first became aware of "Ultra Seven" when it showed up in weekday morning syndication on the US TNT network mid-90's. They would run two half-hour episodes, which were HEAVILY edited and almost comedic in their English translations (dubbed in the mid-80's by Canadian outfit CINAR). Unless you grew up in Hawaii, in the ‘70s, you probably discovered Ultra 7 in the ‘90s on TNT like I did. By the time I saw this particular production I was already in my late 20s, which was perfect due to the comedic treatment that the production team chose for this version of the show.

This DVD set is more pure in treatment to the original production. It is spoken in the original Japanese with English subtitles.

Sometimes, the subtitles are a bit inaccurate and the audio fades out in several occasions. However, this is not really that big of a deal unless you can actually follow the Japanese audio.

Ultra 7 is one of the most popular series of the “Ultraman” shows. In the US, we only ever had the first Ultraman series aside from the Hawaiian version of Ultra 7 that was cited above.

Its not Tsuburaya releasing it: They had NO interest in releasing their shows in the US(at least at an affordable price), so if they had to lose a lawsuit for me to finally get some subtitled releases SO BE IT!

There is a missing episode: it was banned in Japan so it was not included in the masters. This ep was shown dubbed on TNT so you can buy a bootleg if you want to see that one ep.

Its not dubbed: Boo effing hoo.

Shout has done a great job with the treatment of other TV shows and I suggest that fans support this release. I started watching the fan subbed versions of this show and its really good, not a silly or lighthearted as the original could get, but a very cool show.

The Sarah Silverman Program: Season Three

brilliantly funny
She is brilliantly funny.

But it's important to realize that people who don't agree aren't necessarily suffering from traumatic sensory deprivation experienced as a child. And it's not a given that only smart people love the dirty, filthy and highly inappropriate humor of Sarah Silverman. People from other cultures might find her to be offensive and childish. Not to mention incredibly stupid. Sometimes I watch TV from other countries and think, "Wow, this isn't funny. How can they enjoy this?"

You know, life is weird, and Sarah points that out very effectively.

Just as Good (If Not Better)
Season 3 sees "The Sarah Silverman Program" losing not a single step. This outrageously absurd send-up of the sitcom genre takes well-worn, cliched tropes and turns them on their heads. Examples include; Sarah reviving her childhood imaginary friend (Andy Samberg) who now wants to have sex and do drugs all day, Brian and Steve constructing their own robot "baby" named Breve, Sarah believing she was born a man and wearing her dismembered "member" around her neck like a locket, and the wonderful Maria Bamford (as the punnily named May Kadoody) being elected as mayor but losing her position when her fetish for eating eggs and onions while looking at women's panties is revealed. With a series as bizarrely creative as this one, the tone and humor can be difficult to sustain, but this series seems to defy the odds and continues to be fresh, bold and utterly "ridonkulous".

Awesome comedy. on the edge, a bit rude, but tests your views on issues. laugh out loud ! A home run!
